[Clip+] Power consumption issues with 3.11.2
Tigran Ghardashyan:
Ok, this problem is not 3.11.2 issue, it's not even a RockBox issue I think.
Turns out that some memory cards consume much more energy than others. I got 16+ hours of playback from internal memory/ my 2 GB Verbatim and 4 GB SanDisk memory cards. But I get ~11 hours of work from mentioned 32 GB SanDisk card. I have upgraded to this card after 3.11.2 release, that's why I thought it's RB issue. :)
P.S. It seems that track changing background noise ( described here - http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/11907 ) loudness is proportional to memory card's power consumption amount.
Thanks,
Best regards.

Interesting. Using my 16 GB card, battery life decreased by just a few minutes verses having no SD card on the Clip+.

What I've found on ABI forums http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61904
bertrik:
I remember reading that some cards put themselves in a kind of low-power mode after some time of SD bus inactivity.
It is very possible that not every card supports this, or supports this to the same extent.
Different sd cards even from the same manufacturer can differ in this behaviour.
It could also be possible that we unknowingly do something in rockbox that prevents the card from entering the low-power mode, like not sending enough idle cycles after a command. Or perhaps something like the card not entering low-power mode when we issue a read-multiple command and not terminating the multi-read.
This is pure speculation so far, I think you should try to see if you get a runtime reduction too when using the original firmware to be sure.

My 32GB Sandisk does the same. My old 4GB generic card went hours longer.
Glad you mentioned it, I thought I had a lemon.
