Can't copy files to Fuze v1
« on: May 21, 2012, 11:30:19 PM »
Whenever I try to copy several files to my sansa fuze at one time (an album or whatever), it only gets about halfway through before it stops copying and just sits there.  Clicking cancel causes Windows Explorer to stop responding.  If I unplug my player, I have to reset it before it will turn back on.  I'm using Rockbox 3.11.2 with bootloader version 2.0.

I had a similar issue one other time, and replacing the USB cord solved the issue.  However, I would think if the USB cord was faulty, it wouldn't copy any files at all.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

It's probably not your hardware.  It seems like the USB is pretty much unusable right now for any significant transfers.  I can transfer all day long on the OF, but with Rockbox USB it will always crash within about an album's worth of MP3s.  It's been reported a number of times, but I'm not sure if anyone is working on it or not.

It wouldn't mind using the OF to do transfers, but I've got a lot of files on the player and waiting 20-30 minutes for it to update the database before you can connect is a drag.  I hope someone is able to figure it out.

Well, I've been waiting for almost a year now for someone with that problem to tell me what revision broke it.  So far, just lots of people asking if theres anything they can do to help that doesn't involve doing anything :)

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the bug report is correct that it was broken in 3.9.  I remember the initial USB support (3.7 I think) had a lot trouble connecting, but once connected it was pretty stable.  Then it seemed like the connection problems improved, but the transfer became unstable.  I think that happened in the original 3.9 release.  Strangely, I don't think anything was mentioned in the release notes about anything being fixed or changed regarding USB, but I'm pretty sure that's when it happened.

Sorry I can't be more specific.  I could maybe try downgrading to 3.8.1 and see if the transfer is more stable in that version if you think it would help.  I have no idea what the code looks like, so it may not be realistic, but maybe you could look at a diff of the relevant code in 3.8.1 and 3.9 and see if there were changes in any suspect areas?

Not really.  If you want to help, start testing revisions between the last known working one, and the first known broken one (listed in that task).  Theres less then a thousand revisions, so you'd only have to test about 10 builds to figure out.
