So... what's wrong with the nano 2g USB ?
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:23:18 PM »
Hi all.
After some basic research, I couldn't find any details about the current issues that affect the iPod nano 2g. I actually would like to know exactly what's going on before I can advise a friend of mine who wants to install Rockbox on her device. Any links ?

It was discussed a lot in the IRC logs a week or so before 3.11.2 came out.  But basically, USB changes broke USB on the Nano 2G and there is no fix at the moment short of using the old USB code from the last release.

Which revision does mass storage work on? I tried the latest revision, r38 as well as r37 but my ipod still fails to mount on my pc.

r38 was from 2002 or so, have a look in System --> Rockbox Info to find out what versions you have tried so we can see if they are expected to work or not.

Searching around I have no idea what software r38 refers to, but if you install  rockbox 3.10 it'll work :)

This link here refers to different revisions, i.e r38, r36, etc. http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IPodNano2GPort

Scroll near the bottom where it says history. That's where i downloaded it from.

Anyway i found version 3.10, installed it, and now usb mounts successfully :) Im a happy penguin now. Thanks a lot!

Those are revisions of the page on the website, not of the software. The link goes to the same place in all of them: the current development build.

Hi,

I managed to find a compromise. I rolled back to version 3.9.1. USB works fine with this version and the channels are not switched. Well there is a small bug where the first song you play is switched, but after that it's fine.
