Using Sandisk factory-default theme
« on: April 17, 2012, 01:23:32 PM »
Hello, I've been trying out Rockbox on my Sansa Clip+ and I think the features are truly amazing!

The problem I have though is with the default look and the available themes, I really don't find any to suit me (for functional and visual reasons) and unfortunately find the original one better for me...

So, I was wondering if there is any chance of keeping the menus, the font, the graphics just like they are, but to add to that the games and apps and other features from Rockbox. Is this possible?

Thanks for your help,
Tasukete

There is no way to completely reproduce the sandisk UI in rockbox since we don't allow you to completely retheme the menus.

Thanks saratoga!

Is this a legal issue? i.e. the fact that you can't make a firmware using the original look?

I don't think I mean to completely retheme the menus, it's pretty much the other way around, and I thought perhaps there was a way to install Rockbox so that it only adds a few selectable features but keeps most of the original stuff...

Thanks again!

No, just no one has been interested in doing it.

When you are in rockbox, no part of the Sandisk software is running, and there is no way to interact with any of the Sandisk code at all.  Its a closed source operating system provided by Sandisk.  We can't do anything about it or with it.

Oh right, that answers my question then!

(hoping one day someone will make a hybrid with the original look!)

Not quite true, you can do some pretty nifty things with themes now, it does take alot of work to reprodcue the OF though, but it should be pretty close to possible

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
