RB new install on Fuze V2-lost my music and device is full, usb "unknown"
Isaansound:
Ok, I appreciate that.
I am not quite sure why the website would list 3.10 as the current stable build on the date I downloaded it.
I did read the previous posts, to assume that the problem is mine without taking note of other posts of yours with the same vein (where you focus on any fault of the user, while being less than helpful), and not realizing that the wording may be less than clear to others outside of your "group" is to do users a disservice. Since your giving me personal advice, I'd suggest you check your defensive attitude when you fire up to the "support" site. I didn't come here to lay blame. I just want to use the software. As a former IT manager, now retired, I can advise you that considerable work needs to be done both with the software and the support facility to make it user friendly. Wasn't that the point originally? To make something that people will enjoy?? I'm just askin'....
Does your group test product acceptance with focus groups of non technical users?
Try doing a search for "update rock box" do you get an answer that shows you how to update rock box? No....
When you go to help, is there a selection for "search help"? No.....
When you click on "current build" then select your device, does it indicate which build this might be before going farther?? No...
When you select "releases" and 3.11 comes up, does the page explain whether this will work for updating a prior build or is for a clean install? No....
If these questions could have been answered "yes" at the time of my original download, the only problem I would have had, would have been having the device in the wrong mode

It was the stable build then, we didn't release the new stable build (3.11) until today. See: rockbox.org

Since you were explicitly told that the version you had did not have USB support, but were not able to accept that information, I think it is like that there was significant error on your part.

You're going to tell me about being defensive? :)

Yes of course, we're probably going to change our terminology to be more clear in the future. But i don't think it would have helped you here.

I just tried on google, and the first result is the result is Section 2.4 of the rockbox manual, accurately titled "2.4 Updating Rockbox".

Assuming by "help", you mean the forums or manual, you are mistaken. Both are searchable.

Assuming you're using our recommended method as instructed, you get:
So yes, it was indicated.

Doing that would be stupid. All builds can always be updated. A clean install is never needed. This is explained in the section of the manual about updating rockbox.

As far as I can tell, all of them were "yes". But you still didn't manage to do it. Again, we're always working on improving our documentation and terminology, but at some point its up to you to take a few moments and understand what you're doing. By my count you ignored at least 2 or 3 people and 4 or 5 places on the webpage, all of which explicitly answered your question. But you were sure everyone else couldn't help you, so you ignored them. I'm sorry that happened, but we can't force you to accept information. No matter how hard we try, you're always going to be free to completely screw it up :)
