Sansa Clip Zip playlists: gibberish for Chinese/ Korean characters + fail to pla

(1/1)

jqzed:
Hello,  I've been trying to plough through the forum, but I couldn't quite find what I was looking for, or maybe I wasn't looking carefully enough. Please kindly help~

The problem is this: I've been trying to load my rockboxed zip with a playlist.  I used Clementine on a Mac for this.  I opened my Zip's 'Music' folder in the music app's media library and saved the corresponding playlist in *.M3U format in the Zip's Playlist folder.

It was partly successful as I could see the playlist when I boot up in both Rockbox and OF. However, the playlist shows up as [empty] in OF.

Question (1): So externally created playlists only works with rockbox?

And even in rockbox, only the songs that are in English characters play properly.  Those which are originally (i.e. in the *m3U file when opened in textedit) in Chinese/ Korean characters are turned into gibberish and simply won't play on the Zip

Question (2): Am I doing something wrong? How might I correct this problem?

Thanks a million for any help at all

With characters like that, you need to make sure the codepage is right. Try changing Settings > General Settings > Display > Default Codepage, or use playlists in the M3U8 format (same as M3U, but using UTF-8).

[After looking at Clementine's source.]

Hm, seems like it writes playlists in UTF-8 format. Try renaming the file to .m3u8 and see if that helps.
