Disable 7th gen iPod firmware.

I primarily use my iPod to interface with my car stereo.  It's buggy and I'm tired of needing special software to manage it.  Is there a way I can disable the firmware on the iPod so my radio will simply see it as a USB drive?

So today I decided to just format the ipod like it was a regular USB drive.  Seems to work how I want it to.  Didn't think it would be that easy.
