Unresponsive Fuse+

I've been running rockbox on my Fuse+ ok for several weeks.  I now find that I cannot add or delete directories or files via the usb whether I boot on rockbox or sansa.  Delete via the context menu also does not work.
I can only play existing music using the File menu.  Attempts to use the Database shows Building database 0 found.  Initialising the database show updating in background but database is still unusable.
I've also tried formatting via the sansa menu & windows but both fail.
Any suggestions appreciated.
