Iriver IHP120 -> 50pin to CF to SD
« on: March 10, 2012, 09:50:50 AM »
Hey everybody

I want to revive my old iriver running on rockbox with a dead harddrive and saw alot of CF mods... Now i'm wondering, is it possible to use a 50pin -> CF converter as shown in the mods..and also use a CF -> SD or Microsd card converter...? Can't really find anything about it on google (Sd card usage in these players)

Any idea's on this one?

Thanks!

Today I get this item.Over two months... airmail, sure :\.
 Well:) works perfect !
 Speed - Toshiba 16G class 4 -write 4,4MB/s, Read 8,1MB/s, ordinary cheapest Kingston 8G 2,8/7,9
The same cards on Cowon D2 - 4,9/4,4. Heh.
So enough :)
But mechanically - it's too long. Longer ab.10mm than HDD (with SD card) - but I cut a  board and solder flex tape (HDD flex) into. Its perfect. Near "phones" and "line in" socket I put SD port :). Sadly change an SD card need reset (power off) but works :D
Adapter is thick less than 4mm so I put double batterry in my H3xx+
Sorry, my basic english don't allow to write more about this SD mod... but if You intrested in -ask me, I'll try:)

Any modifications needed in software? And do you notice that is it slower with a SD on the iriver??

:O Too bad it is a little to big (the adapter).. so it won't fit in it?
Is there anyway to shorten the adapter instead of the iriver case??

Any photo's.. especially with the solder flex tape into the adapter..? I don't really understand that part :P

Where did you buy it  ;D man i'm getting excited  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hello
>Any modifications needed in software?
No, boot like in other CF modification downloaded from this forum

>And do you notice that is it slower with a SD on the iriver??
Absolutely no, quick and very responitive (quick reaction, no pause)
>:O Too bad it is a little to big (the adapter).. so it won't fit in it?
Now SC card is 5mm over upper line (jacks).
Prewiously SD is ideal in-line with jacks, but...

>Is there anyway to shorten the adapter instead of the iriver case??
I shorten it by cutting adapter board, get out 50pin
IS another chance to shorten this adapter - putting SD port on wire and glueing it somewhere on a back cover

>Any photo's.. especially with the solder flex tape into the adapter..? I don't really understand that part
Flex conducted tape - connection between H3xx MoBo and HDD.
connect SD adapter and H3xx mainboard.
Thickness of adapter board is nearly the same as space between row pins in HDD cocket in H3xx.
If I get out female 50 socket from adapter (see photo i linked above)I get 5-6mm.I can shorten board circa 3mm so I get 8-9 mm. Then I can put male pins with flex tape into board and solder it. There was unfortunately idea. Flex tape with hard board and pressing it by batterry - in effect get broke flex tape ((without radius of bonding:() past two days of use... Now I get another iRiver's flex tape, adapter 50pin>ZIF ZIF flex tape>adapter SD.
And SDHC card is over upper cover.

Now I thinking about ZIF adapter for my H3xx. ZIF >ZIF ie H3x0 zif > ATA ZIF.

>Where did you buy it

As I linked above - bouincoin.com or dealextreme.com "SD Card to ZIF/Toshiba 1.8 Adapter"

And sorry again, my English is so ...basic I can't describe It better.

Best Regards
Jaro

I have tried out this mod with that red buyincoin adapter and with my h140 , the v6 bootloader. My expierience is  it was  working but useless because there were too many disk errors, after some time the directory structure of the sd card damaged. I have used a 32gb and  a 8gb class 10 card. This was a half year ago now I am using a 16 gb cf card with an other adapter and it seems to work for a few days.

Looks good, although as long as total size of adaptor has to be same or less than 1.8" hard drive. Also capacity isn't as high as HD yet. Do like the idea of lower power consumption and shock resistance though
