iriver h120 using line-out as headphone?
« on: March 07, 2012, 11:58:49 PM »
Is it safe for hardware to connect headphones with impedance 32 Omh  to line out? Trying to avoid distortion and noise from builded headphone amplifier. Can I await more quality sound?

Probably, they're usually terminated to avoid damage if you do that.

No, it'll be badly distorted.  A line out is meant to drive a line in:

Line out is supposed to go into a headphone amp or tape deck or other line level device, not headphones. It'll distort.

Thought my H140 was faulty as was distorting. But then I noticed I connected headphones to line out.

Apologies for bumping an old thread but my question is the same and this one doesn't quite seem to have been answered.

I managed to fry the headphone output* on my iRiver iHP-120 but the line out is still working. Is there any problem with connecting headphones to the line out? Is it likely to damage anything?

I tried it tentatively, initially with the volume turned down before putting it up to a normal level and it sounded fine - no distortion.

*I'll post a new thread for this.
