Problems with ipod video build.
« on: March 04, 2012, 03:26:38 PM »
Hoping you can help with this.

Have downloaded this build for a 60GB video ipod. All installed fine, drag and drop functionality is great, but there seems to be a fairly short time period after which the entire screen display goes blank. Music will continue to play if already chosen, but no button presses bring the display back up.

I've had a cursory flick through the menus to see if anything needs changing, but I'm essentially against the clock every time I power up, with the only way to resume a hard reset then power up once again.

If it helps/makes a difference, I have the screen backlight switched off - seems fine though on power up as it quickly dims to what I would expect from the machine when running the Apple OS.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Strange, I've never heard of anything like that.  Which build are you running?

I have no idea.  Unless someone else can think of something, it may just be broken somehow that prevents it from working in Rockbox.

OK, well I'll keep checking in case anyone has had similar, but the machine is spot on otherwise. Odd one.

Isn't the default behavior for the iPod to turn off the LCD when backlight is off? Try turning the backlight back to timed rather than just "off" and see if that fixes things.

Backlight off keeps the LCD on with this iPod usually, but I'll give it a go.

Nope, same as. Quite a few different settings to tweak, but I'll get about a minute to ninety seconds before the whole LCD chooses to sod off.

It seems like we're missing a key piece of info here, just in terms of troubleshooting -
How does it act when you install the last stable release, or (for that matter) an older stable release?

Also, just out of curiosity, are you able to keep the screen on via button activity?  I read through the thread and can't really tell whether you've tried this.  Also, does the behavior change if you set the backlight options to something dramatically different - "always on", "on while charging", or even just not have it "off"?  It seems like these are things to try (or at least tell us about here) if you want to nail down what the actual issue is.
