Sansa Fuze+ with Rockbox

(1/1)

steppinthrax:
The wheel on my old Sansa Fuze took a shit.  No one seems to sell it anymore.  I see the Fuze+ is out, it's a little cheaper.  But I heard a bunch of horror stories about slow bootups and horrible capacitance touchpad.  I was thinking of buying it and installing rockbox.  Does anybody have Rockbox running on the FUZE+, are all the issues fixed with this?

tpijag:
On the front page is a listing of supported devices. Under usable, but still not stable you will find this link http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaFuzePlusPort

steppinthrax:
Thanks,

So it seems everything works except the recording.  I was wondering if anybody put rockbox on their player and reported better results.  The touchpad problems as well as the slow bootup problems are my biggest questions...

tpijag:
Quite a bit of info available via searching the forums. There is a long thread about the port to your unit here http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,26284.0.html.

If it were me, I would just install it and see how it went. Trivial to remove if you choose to do so.

I listen to podcasts and audiobooks.  I got so bothered by the problems with the touch pad, that I bought a Clip Zip. No Touch pad, no touch pad problems.

Then not caring if I bricked Fuze+, I put rockbox on it.  And amazingly, the biggest problem -- that of getting the touch screen to work at all with a FF or Rewind  in a chapter or episode was solved.

This suggests that some of the problem with the touch screen isn't hardware but Sansa''s implementation of it.
