Well, it is just a Windows issue, for me on Linux, it "just works", so, maybe if you have a friend who runs Linux, or are adventurous enough to try it?

One need not be all that adventurous to run linux out of a live cd/dvd or off a usb drive.

That said, it's good to take care when formatting drives and understand the difference between

--- Code: ---mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb
--- End code ---

and

--- Code: ---mkfs.vfat /dev/sda
--- End code ---

d4v3:
i just wanted to add that

--- Code: ---mkfs.vfat /dev/sdc
--- End code ---

didn't work for me
the 128gb sdxc card was not mounted on my sansa fuzev2

this did the trick:
i used gparted to set the option "lba" in the MBR, which was mentioned in another thread.
then the card appeared in the root-directory.
in german the "lba" tick was at "Markierungen"

gparted is also on live-cds and has a GUI,so this could be an option for windows users too

sry for my english

jagdriver:
(After several false tries on a Vista PC.......)

Using the supplied SD adapter, I plugged my 64GB SDXC card into the reader built into the side of my Dell monitor (Windows XP) and tried Microsoft's Diskpart from a CMD line. Nothing. I then downloaded the free Partition Wizard (http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html) and tried again; it didn't register the SDXC card partition. Hmmm.......

I then put the card and its adapter into a small SD/USB adapter I always carry and plugged that lot into a free USB port. Running Partition Wizard again, lo' and behold the card was recognized straight away. I then chose to format it as FAT32, clicked the [Apply] button and PRESTO... my PC was engulfed in flames a foot high!

;<) Sorry.... I formatted as FAT32, clicked [Apply] and PRESTO! The card is now formatted as FAT32 and I've successfully copied MP3 files to it.

Now I'm finally able to create the daily DAP of my dreams. OK, maybe not of my ultimate dreams, but it's a L-O-N-G way from my do-all, homemade boombox mashup circa 1970 (think Felix the Cat's magic bag), coupled with an orange crate full of homemade Dolbyized cassettes.

Was it Dolby C with HXPro?  Made with a Nakamichi Dragon!  I used to fantasize about owning one of those!
