Vynil record Theme Idea
« on: February 22, 2012, 03:28:24 AM »
Hi!
Is there any theme out there that looks like an old spinning vynil record? Anyone willing to join me in a small theme project to create one?
Maybe it could look similar to the virtual dj interface. Sugestions and opinions are extremly welcome.

Regards

I would be happy to guide you through making one...

I've got rather a lot on my plate these days, but, ...yeah. As I said, I would be happy to give you the guidance you require to create this theme yourself.

I really don't have the time to collaborate with anyone on making a theme as I have work and my own projects keeping me occupied, but I certainly have time to guide an eager new theme developer in the right direction.

You need only ask.

Hi to everyone.
Saint (and other artists, please), I've been reading the theme guidelines and the images i had where from Virtual DJ software, which has copyright. I'm making a new one from scratch.
The main problem is I'm no artist and it really looks bad.
The sketch I'm attaching still has missing some stuff, like volume indicator, next track and some others you will probably notice. I want the turntable to spin, and the advance of the track make the arm to move. The play icon is like it would look on a turntable. Can we do this together? Is very hard to me the "beauty" part :)
I thank any collaboration.
Regards.

I was messing with this a bit and here's what i came up with on the sim. It's extremely rough.

ipod vid 320x240 http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ht4wof2nncl453z
fuze/ipod color 220x176 http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?t7x1ddddocns6vj

It's a rip off this...

I'd prefer one with a vinyl record theme.

Awesome sockbox! The mk1200 is my favorite style of turntable! Would it be possible to "deatach" the arm and use it as a progress bar? Also make the label of the record to spin? The pitch control would be useful as a volume indicator. The buttons could have animation too. I´m sorry if i´m asking too much but i really got excited when i saw the image. I really like it.
Congratulations!

It's not my image. It's something I found on the web.

Grab the version for the fuze. I made more progress on that. I probably won't continue working on it since this was just for kicks. Have fun with it!

Please try to think of something more imaginative than a progress bar that goes from left to right!

Hi to everyone  :)! It´s so good to know that the vynil was of your interest :) .
This week i´m getting a bit more available time from work and i´m gonna post a couple of things. Is my very high interest that the progress bar be the turntable´s arm. I´ll try to do some work on it and send feedback.
On the real world turntable the sliding control on the right is the pitch control, we could try to make a survey to find out if is more practical to make it the volume knob or the pitch indicator as well.
Some images soon.
Regards.

I just downloaded the package of images. Is almost complete, the issue is i dont know how to get to the author to ask permission to do some work with the pics. Or is just for free?
Help!
Regards.

I´ve tested the theme and it works pretty close to what i want to achieve. Some considerations about it:
1-How would it be possible to make go away that purple border
2-The arm is just Cool!
3-The record dont have to spin all around, i think it could do 2 frames and back, because the lighting does not move. Making the label in the middle to spin entirely would give a much lighter look.

Is a very good approach (actually great job), we could go on this project, of course if the original author has no objections.
Regards.

The purple border is suppose to be the transparent layer of the arm but you'll need the exact magenta color (R=255, G=0, B=255) in order for it to not show. I did a quick cut job on that arm and some of the magenta got blended with the white. You'll need to cut the arm out on a dissolve layer in Photoshop, on top of a transparent layer, being mindful of the underlying black vinyl image. You can probably get away with roughly cutting the arm out and turning all the white around the arm shades of gray/black which will make it easier to lay on top of a transparent layer and blend well with the spinning vinyl.

The lighting on the vinyl should move. It does in the sim. I don't have a hardware player so I don't know if it actually works as it does in the sim. I would change the image in the middle of the vinyl record to a plain color label like the ones that say Columbia.

Hmm, this just makes me think...I wonder if it'd be possible to have a an image with a transparent curve in it..? And then a big progress bar underneath it. And on top of that a spinning turntable record that the curve goes around...This makes me want to get back into theming again, though I haven't done it since the old format for wps. How much new do I have to learn from old wps format vs new?

I think I'm going to give this a try. I'll attempt to create images in photoshop from scratch, and hopefully get a good result. ^_^
