Archos jukebox Recorder, Ondio.... problems with recording !!!
« on: January 19, 2012, 11:19:37 AM »
Hi,
I heard in this forum that there are problems with an internal chip in the Jukebox hardware (and Ondio) that it's not possible to get proper long recordings and it would be not possible to work around with software (in the next time..).
I always get corrupt files by recordings longer than about 2 hours. Even though I work with file split option. Isn't there a possibility to get good recordings with 1 hour and with the start of the next hour it starts another good recording session?
Is there a possibility to work around anyway. Has the vbrfix something to do with this?
thank you for your help  :)

What build are you using.  Can you point out what chip you're talking about?

Ah.  So it's the DSP that contains the MP3 codec used in these players.  I guess there's not much of a way to work around that short of maybe doing all of the recording via a plugin (I'm guessing that's the method to work around it in software that pixelma mentioned).  Since the bug is in the MP3 codec that's stored in ROM, the only way to fix it would be to flash a new codec, but as the ArchosFAQ page mentions, nobody knows how to do that due to lack of documentation and tools.

The Archos DSP is known to occasionally drop bits when recording at the highest quality. If you reduce the quality when recording, then this problem is less likely to occur, but may still happen at times.
