Dropouts - how to resolve?
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:36:21 PM »
So far, impressed with Rockbox (see particulars below). Esp. love the cue sheet feature, since I have lots of stream rips and mixes I like to leave running for awhile.

But I am having dropout problems. Each dropout lasts 3-4 seconds, come in batches (3-4 at a time), then nothing for awhile. Playback resumes exactly where the dropout began.

I thought it was maybe a flaky disc, or unit vibration, but it happens when the unit is sitting complacently on the table. And it never seemed to be a problem while under the original firmware. Sometimes, it seems to happen a few minutes after doing something with the unit, say a track skip, or a volume change.

I've been playing with the anti-skip and I pushed it to 15 seconds, but that didn't seem to help. It's now down to 5 seconds. Could cross-fade have any impact on the dropouts?

So any suggestions? Thanks all for a great product - it has resurrected my iRiver.

H/W: iRiver H10 w/ original 20GB disc and third battery
S/W: Rockbox 3.10 (loaded earlier this week)

// EDIT //

Oy, well never mind, at least for now. I did a reset on the settings and it seems be behaving properly now. I had gone hog wild with all the settings before - new toy and all, ya know - so now I'm going to (re)apply each setting carefully and see which one led to the dropouts.

Thanks all.
