Just so you know, rockbox has nothing to do with linux.

Assuming you mean the sandisk updater, both the bin file and the the sandisk updater are linked from the same page on their website.  I'm guessing you clicked the wrong link.

Yes you do.
1. Why aren't you using Rockbox Utility?

Quote
[root@Desktop rbinstall]# sudo ./mkamsboot fuzea.bin bootloader-fuze.sansa patched.bin

2. Why are you using sudo here? Using sudo here is a bad idea, and the manual doesn't tell anything about using sudo for mkamsboot.

Quote
[root@Desktop rbinstall]# ./mkamsboot fuzea.bin bootloader-fuze.sansa patched.bin
bash: ./mkamsboot: Permission denied

3. You need to set the executable bit on mkamsboot.

Impossible. If so, why haven't you been using Rockbox Utility in the first place? It does run on Linux (and the manual recommends using it since it simplifies things a lot).

Are you running 3.10?  That release predates USB support for your player.  If you update to the current build, USB will be included.

Use the sandisk firmware for USB.

Yes, without a USB driver, you cannot use USB.  Hence, you will not be able to use USB.

No.  Just reboot into the sandisk firmware, and use their USB code to mount the player. Hold left while booting.  If that doesn't make sense, check the manual, it explains all of this in boring detail.
