Playlist song titles contain only 3-4 characters...
richsto:
First post here but I think I was finally able to convert existing iTunes playlists to m3u, imported them into Media Monkey, and over to my Rockboxed 5.5g. We edited registry files to synch iTunes playlists and sync'd the playlist successfully with Media Monkey over to the iPod (think that's how we did it). Anyway playlists play fine but only the first 3-4 letters in the Artist name show up on the playlist. Did we do something wrong or is their a way to have the song name show up???
Thanks. This is all really new to me..... ???

Testing....

If you're using playlists that reference iTunes-transferred music then the strange filenames are expected. This is because Apple changes the names to obscure them. Rockbox shows what the file is by the name it has on the disk.
The best way around this is to use Rockbox when transferring music as you can then call each file by a sane name. Although this means that you (probably) won't be able to use these songs under the Apple firmware.

I expected to see the "gibberish" names that apple uses but am a bit surprised that each song contains the first few letters of the artist. Not a big deal on playlists as I usually just let it shuffle through. Now if I could just get songs to play by album - fodder for another post I suppose.
Thanks for your help.

Your best bet (and I know how patronising this will sound) is to read the (fine) manual. It's very detailed, and should answer most of the questions that you'll have. ;D
