sansa e250v2 - microsd not working

(1/1)

urodelo:
Hello!
I'm new to the forum. First at all I would like to thank you all for letting rockbox running on my device, the e250v2. I've waited for a long time for it and now I'm a happy user.

The problem is with one of my microsd card. Before it worked with the original firmware, now with rockbox 3.10 it can't be red, while another which I own is red. The not working is a kingston 2GB card, but my phone and the card reader I have, they can read it.

I've formatted it first with ext3, then I've found out it's not supported and therefore I've run mkfs.vfat. I wonder if any options should be passed to mkfs to let rockbox read the card.
Mind that I've already formatted it 2-3 times and checked for errors.
It can't be a compatibility issue because before the original firmware was able to read it.
Any hint?
thank you

urodelo

Is the card partitioned? If so, what partition type is it? Rockbox only supports the "standard" partition types for FAT, so if you used type 0x83 (which is the usual type for ext3), and you didn't change it later, it won't work.

Before it was ext3, when I've found out it wasn't supported I've formatted it to fat (vfat) 2-3 times and still doesn't mount it

torne:
You need to actually set the partition type in the partition table; just reformatting it as a different filesystem doesn't do this, you need to use fdisk.

Hi
Yes, the partition has been already deleted and then recreated but that time formatted with mkfs.vfat, but still didn't work

However today I've foramtted it on a windoS pc and now the rockbox can recognize the card... I know that the fat32 of win is a bit different from the one you can get on linux, but i wonder if this can be the cause...

thank you for the answers
