Now, the problem has (at least) two solutions - either disallow this bypass sequence or make the digital audio playback function (i.e., selecting a song from the browser) shut FM down if necessary.
Yes, it is a bug that the FM radio isn't turned off when you play a file in the browser.

I reason that we may as well implement both fixes, since it is more logical for a user to return to the FM screen.
It's absolutely not logical. You left the FM screen and is now back in the menu. The only way to get to the FM screen is to select that menu item again.

This may also be the place to say that I view the FM screen not as a submenu but rather as a different type of WPS (while playing radio).
Well, you can view it as you want, but currently the FM screen *is* a menu item, and as such it behaves like one.

Okay, view it like this:

You're at the file browser. From it you invoke the menul. From it you invoke the FM screen. Hitting the record key from the FM screen de-invokes it. Hitting it from the menu de-invokes the menu.

The only time you return to the WPS from the menu is if you invoked the menu from the WPS. There is the question of "Well, what if you view it like someone is invoking the Menu FROM the FM screen" but the FM screen is accessed from the menuing system, not the other way around.

OK, so I want to challenge the placing of FM radio as a submenu rather than as a persistent screen.
I have provided evidence in favor of it in my previous message.

I agree that it is worth investigating if the FM screen should be a WPS screen. Until then, it is a menu item and should behave as such.

Challenging it is fine, I was just trying to make sure the logic behind it is fully explained.

That being said, how would you go about invoking the radio if not from the menuing system?
(Though at the moment it can also be invoked from FMR files, in which case the pressing of record WOULD be a first invokation of the menu.)

Let's differentiate between entering FM mode (can be done from a menu, by invoking .fmr, by having a special pseudo-dir in filebrowser, whatever) and being in FM mode.
The latter needs control (change to a preset station, scan spectrum, volume, ...) and has info to display (preset number out of total, current frequency, reception quality, ...) which IMHO should reside in a WPS-like screen.

You have some less often used controls (force mono, spectrum bounaries, etc.) which can be accessible from a context menu or a submenu of the main menu (cf. equalizer settings for digital playback).

BTW, same goes for recording mode.

Ideally a theme/.wps would customize all of these persistent screens.
