Crossfade settings
Chill:
Tell me I'm stupid, but I don't understand all of the crossfade settings. I've checked previous posts and not found an explanation that clears it up completely. So, since the wiki/manual hasn't yet caught up with this feature, I thought I'd ask.
'Fade in duration' and 'Fade out duration' make sense - these must describe the time between the start of the fade and the point where either full or zero volume is reached respectively.
'Fade in delay' could be the delay between the start of fade out and the start of fade in. But if so, then what is 'Fade out delay'?
I can't see how there are more than 3 independent variables here. Wouldn't an 'Overlap' setting, together with the two 'durations' above, cover every eventuality, and be more intuitive?
What have I missed?
Chris
Mmmm:
Fade in delay 1
Fade out delay 0
this would mean 1 second after fade out starts, fade in starts
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Fade in delay 0
Fade out delay 1
this would mean 1 second after fade in starts, fade out starts
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fade in delay 1
Fade out delay 1
Following the same logic this would be the same as
Fade in delay 0
Fade out delay 0
But I'm not sure....
--------------------------------------------------------------------
and if i set
Fade in duration 0
Fade out duration 0
Fade in delay 0
Fade out delay 1
then the tracks will overlap by 1 second
Which as far as I can tell leaves the crossfade mode totally redundant! ???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently Slasheri is the only one to have an insight to this mystery but he keeps very quiet about it! :D
But I agree just having one fade in delay (which also includes -ve values) would do the same and get rid of the millions of redundant settings....unless of course I misunderstand the whole thing ;)
Chill:
Thanks Mmmm - that seems to make sense. If that's all there is to it, then I still think that both of the 'delay' options could be removed and replaced with a single 'Overlap' setting, which would specify the total time between the start of Fade In and the end of Fade Out.
Would that preclude any configurations that are possible with the current options?
Chris
dropandhop:
are these settings going to make their way into wiki or the manual?!
thanks for the great description on this one Mmmm

Febs:
Yes, they'll be in the next draft of the manual. As for the wiki, feel free to update it.
