SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 01.02.16/bootloader: power-on on USP connect, USB support
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:24:51 AM »
Guys,
Just got another Clip+ with 01.02.16 firmware.
Made bootloader as explained in manual.

Manual says:
3.1.3. Starting the original firmware
The player will always boot into the original firmware if it is powered by a USB
connection. When Rockbox USB support is officially stable, a new bootloader will be
released changing this behavior.

The boot behavior is different from another Clip+ FW: V01.02.09A I have - on USB power-on it boots into original firmware.

Clip+ FW: V01.02.16A - boots into Rockbox on USB power-on
So I guess, Rockbox USB support is officially stable now, right?

The only problem, when I boot into Rockbox, neither Clip+ with old firmware, nor with new one shows up as USB drive in windows. They both do when booted into original firmware thought.
Do I need to turn USB support On somehow in Rockbox on Clip+?
Or it’s not supported yet?

I do have e200 and USB support is definitely there and there are some settings in menu too.
Those settings are missing in Clip+...

I saw similar question with the answer:
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,29140.0.html
>Sansa Clip+: no longer possible to access files when connected to USB
>You are connecting in MTP mode. Boot the original firmware and set the USB mode to MSC.
Obviously, both my Clip+ original firmware USB mode is MSC - I won’t be able to access them otherwise as USB drives.
Although, from question it’s not clear, was it booted into original firmware or Rockbox.

How do I check from Rockbox, if USB mode to MSC?
I assume, it supposed to be same as original firmware, but why USB doesn’t work then?

You're running a newer bootloader with an older build.  Either boot into the Sandisk firmware manually to use USB, or update your build to one with USB support.

Edit:  just noticed that block of text in the manual about dual boot.  I think that needs to be deleted.

Thank for reply, bro!

Just to clarify - on new Clip+ I use:
Clip+ FW: V01.02.16A
Rockbox 3.10
IMO, both FW and Rockbox (stable) are latest.
USB works from OF only.
Is it supposed to be like this or I’m missing something still? ???

Do you mean last paragraph of "3.1.3. Starting the original firmware" section – the one I cited?

Just read http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,31397.0.html

If I got it right, 3.10 doesn’t have USB support on Clip+.
It has to be c6d69ae-12017 built, right?

^ Well that's the firmware I upgraded to that had the USB support. There's currently a different build in the Current Build page(build 88cda7e). So just grab that and do a manual install and you should have USB support. Which I gotta say is so nice to have.

On build.rockbox.org Current Rockbox Builds I see build e362e34 only.
On build.rockbox.org/dev.cgi I can see 88cda7e, but how do I download it?
Or I can use any after one 88cda7e?

Hopefully, it'll be in next stable. :)
