Questions about porting a theme to the Fuze
«

So, I just put Rockbox on my Fuze yesterday and LOVE it, only problem is none of the themes are quite ot my liking. I found a nice looking theme for the iPod video, so I want to port it to the Fuze. How would I go about doing that? Is the only thing I have to do resize the images? Thanks.

You would have to resize the images and redefine the placing of both images and text (you might want to use smaller fonts also), the general code structure (wps, fms, sbs, cfg files) and this link

should be good enough to achieve that.

Ok, so, I was experimenting yesterday, the theme I'm trying to port is the iLike V1.3 theme for iPod Video because the iLike one on the fuze is too white, the other one has a more accurate top bar. Yesterday I resized some images and just replaced the ones from the iLike for Fuze theme and booted up, since the only things I think need to change are the play/pause buttons and the backdrop really, I changed those out and when I resized the backdrop the black line on the bottom of the top bar disappeared, which is fine, I don't care much for that, but the play/pause buttons had some purple behind them, is there a way to cure that? And the font also stuck below the top bar, how can I change that? I'm a total newbie to this stuff, sorry.
Thanks for helping.

I almost sure (sorry, I can't look at it right now) that the problem comes from the magenta color that is used on the buttons etc images, which is interpreted by Rockbox as transparent. So what you can do, is remove the magenta from the images, place them where they are supposed to go, copy the image placed in it's actual background, and then resize them. Regarding the background, perhaps you could just take the original image and change the white for something darker; the problem is that you would have to do something similar for the images that are placed on that background (shuffle and repeat icons I think, album art shadow). Something like GIMP would be ideal for making the changes neat and clean.

Well, I'm using Photoshop Elements 6 to do it. Would anyone be willing to do it for me? It sounds a bit complicated. If not I'll just need some more detailed instructions.
With the play/pause are you saying replicate where it is in the original as opposed to the Fuze iLike theme?

The fuze version uses specific play/pause buttons size, so what I mean is to take the iPod video images and place them over the iPod video background (previously removing the magenta color, if present). If you changed the background color a bit, than you should use the new color both on the fuze and the iPod video images. After that, "cut" the images again (at the exact location and size as the original ones), so that the new images will include the real background instead of the generic magenta (transparent) color, and only then resize them so that they end up with the same proportions and size as the Fuze images. Hope this helps

I don't quite get it yet. You mean scale the whole thing together? I'm confused. XD

Before any resizing, you have to remove the magenta color. So the idea is to take each sub image (first play, then pause, etc) and place it on the background, exactly where it's supposed to go. Once there, copy the image - exactly the same area that you placed before (it will include the background then) -, and after all that, resize it. Sorry I don't know how else to help you.

Yeah, not sure how much I really want to do that then. Plus the Grooveshark theme is ok. How would I go about adding a volume bar to the Grooveshark theme? That's the one thing I think it needs. Sorry for changing issues completely.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

Ok, well, in the end after also visiting IRC and trying to get a grasp of things I got the great idea: Why not I just redo the gradient on the top bar of the current iLike theme for Fuze to be more gray like in the OF on iPods? so I did, then I got another great idea after trying to port the blue buttons dozens of times and failing - Why not I just redo the buttons too? so I did, and it looks fine now. As good as I care to make it right now. The buttons are a bit dark, but it's OK now. Thanks for your help, although it didn't help me to understand much, but, oh well.
Thanks guys, my issue is resolved.
