Archos Recorder, ATA error: -11
« on: January 18, 2012, 06:50:53 PM »
Last week my Archos Recorder v1 (Jukebox 20) started crashing frequently with "ATA error: -11".  Now I get that every time, on power up, even if there is no hard drive or any storage device in at all.

It had been working fine, until last week.  For a few weeks, I had been using a CF card & adapter for the hard drive.  Without a normal hard drive, there are not places for all the screws, but it seemed everything was holding together OK by friction.  Now I suspect maybe the batteries were pressing the daughter boards outwards too hard, and breaking something.  Or maybe it was just age, or some other stress or bump.

I am thinking that there must be a broken connection, or a short.  So it would make sense to use an ohm meter to test traces.  I will test that each pin-socket connects to the corresponding trace on the main board.  Does that sound like a sensible approach?
