3.10 sound issue
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:35:21 AM »
Hi  tech stuff of rb team!
At first I would like to say big thanks to you for software which I use on my Hi Fidelity modification of famous cowon X5L/iriver iHP140 (aka aleXmod).
Some info about project could been found in this forum: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,21266.0.html

Until now my player work under the 3.4 rb build (with some patches) because all new releases sound more awfull and lifeless (estimated by blind tests, so, please don't bother me on this fact!).

But your new release (i mean 3.10) is strange release. Sound step above the previous ones (3.5-3.9.1) and sounds different. More dark, coherent, smooth, full-bodied and bass-massive.
I wonder why so? Is there are any hardware EQs or something else???

From your news on this release i found only one thing that could catch the sound properties of rb soft.
Exactly this one: "Fully-functional audio mixer enabling independent, stereo audio channels. "
Would you mind giving me more comprehensive details on this?
Thanks anywhere, Alex.

Generally speaking, there is not really anything that we could change.  We simply decode files according to spec, and then pass the audio to the DAC.  So if it sounds different between builds, its probably just your imagination or that you've enabled the EQ.

It lets things like the voice interface mix with music that's playing.  Also I think plugins can use it.  Previously it was awkward to have multiple audio sources playing at once.

Unfortunatelly it isn't mistake (no EQ of cause) and that fact was proven by many listeners.
Is it possible to focus the attention on sound path realisation to make sure there is not any mistakes or hidden plugins?

I like to pay attention on fact that users of aleXmods is skilled audiophiles in general and the changes in overall perfomance (the sound) is an evident with respect to this player.

I don't recall anyone else noticing anything, but if you're certain you can try a bisecting through the code to figure out which change you think you're hearing.
