Finally got rockbox on the ipod. Drag and drop from explorer to E:(location of ipod) doesn't work when ipod is plugged in to the usb. no files transfer. could somebuddy help this dummy out? time for sleep.

What happens when you try? And what version/build are you running?

It's 3.10 I believe. I'm able to drag and drop the files into the ipod (E:) from explorer (this is while the ipod is connected to my laptop via usb. The new files do not show up in the ipod after i disconnect. The ipod says it's in usb keypad mode while connected...should it be in a different mode? if so, how do I change it?
Post Merge: January 16, 2012, 03:00:00 PMi was looking through the settings and i loaded it to ram as well as changed the export and import settings...now i can find the music on the player. this will take awhile to get used to.
Post Merge: January 16, 2012, 03:07:43 PMit showed up in a folder instead of the database where the other music is (this was the music that was already on the player when i loaded rockbox on it). it'll take some time and patience to figure out how to ensure proper tagging and organizing of music, but it'll be worth it - having this much control over the sound profile is worth it.
Chronon:
The USB keypad mode is part of Rockbox's hybrid HID functionality (it can function simultaneously as USB mass storage and human interface device). Changing the HID mode or disabling it shouldn't have an effect on the ability to act as a UMS device.
The manual should be able to answer your questions about how the database works. For example, new media won't show up in the database until it has been updated.

If your music isn't tagged, just use the file browser. Then you don't even need tags (although they're still nice to have in the playback screen).
