Can't install boot loader in Sansa Clip Zip using Rockbox Utility or manual

(1/2) > >>

UbuntuRockbox:
Tried to install Rockbox in Sansa Clip Zip - V01.01.18 using RockboxUtility-v1.2.11-1 but there is no Clip Zip audio player in the list.  Was able to install latest Sansa ClipZip build on the player.

Now trying to manually build and install the boot loader for the Clip Zip.  Followed instructions in manual - 2.2.2.  Trying to run mkamsboot, passing the name of the OF and bootloader files using the Code ./mkamsboot clpza.bin bootloader-clipzip.sansa patched.bin on Linux.

/rbinstall $ ls
bootloader-clipzip.sansa clpza.bin mkamsboot

mkamsboot for Linux returns the following >:(

... /rbinstall $ sudo ./mkamsboot clpza.bin bootloader-clipzip.sansa patched.bin
mkamsboot Version 1.4

[ERR] Model name "clzp" unknown. Is this really a rockbox bootloader?
[ERR] Could not load bootloader-clipzip.sansa

Any help?

Of course not, since support for the Clip Zip is disabled in that version, which the changelog for Rockbox Utility clearly states. It has been enabled later, so you need to use a newer version (but no newer release has been made).

Why on earth are you running mkamsboot as root? That's completely unnecessary and potentially dangerous.

Sure, since that version of mkamsboot it too old and does not support the Clip Zip (have you checked the timestamps on the server? That should be pretty obvious).

Build mkamsboot yourself, use a recent Rockbox Utility binary (though no binaries for Linux are provided, since Linux users usually should be able to compile it or use a Windows machine for the task), or compile it yourself (you need to do that on Linux).

saratoga:
We actually do provide newer binaries for linux.  Until today you had to download them from the wiki, but the download server binaries should now also be updated as well.

Thanks, but seems that the latest wiki version is 1.2.11, as well as http://download.rockbox.org/rbutil/linux/
