Installed Rockbox before switching mode to MSC - help anyone??

Hi all..

New to the site and mp3 players in general and in my enthusiasm to get my mp3 player beefed up, I installed Rockbox prior to reading the manual - total schoolboy error :-[

At present my device is unrecognisable by my PC - found this out when I went to load new music, therefore I am unable to play music apart from the defaults, or uninstall Rockbox in order to re-install the Sansa software and try again. I've had a look on the Rockbox main page, which seems to suggest these settings can be modified within Rockbox firmware (doesn't say how though), so i've searched through the menu's and cant find anything.

Can anyone offer any help on to access the USB/MSC switching within Rockbox, or  how to get the old firmware back given the situation, or failing, what to do if neither of these are possible?

I would be well gutted if I've had just wasted £35 quid.. so any advice would be really useful and appreciated

First: you can't install Rockbox without switching to MSC mode.
Second: it would be helpful to know (a) which player you're talking about and (b) which version of Rockbox you installed.

My guess is that you have a combination of player / build that doesn't support USB in Rockbox. Boot the original firmware, the manual tells you how to do this.

Thanks for your response

Yeah, I forgot to mention player is Sandisk Sansa Clip+... front page of Rockbox.org states that

"Rockbox runs well on these players, has a complete manual and is supported by the installer: ....

SanDisk: Sansa c200 (not v2), e200 and e200R series, Fuze, Clip and Clip+"

How do reinstall the original firmware when the device is not registering on any  drive on my pc?

There is nothing to re-install as the original firmware is still there. As in the previous response to you, the manual is quite complete. Is there an aspect of it you find hard to follow?

Thanks for the link to the manual. i've already got it saved to my pc

"Is there an aspect of it you find hard to follow?"

Well, I am not entirely sure how you meant the above remark, so I will treat as a bit of joke, not to be taken seriously

To clarify, nowhere in the manual is the workaround of turning the device off prior to connecting via USB lead to a front-end interface (pc/laptop... etc). This solution does indeed work and is a fix to circumnavigate the inherent instability present between Rockbox (v 3.10) and the hardware in the Clip+

Off to make some home-made soup, the gym gives me an appetite!
