Not sure if possible - File view until end subfolder
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:45:31 PM »
Hi folks, just rockboxed my clip+, and I am absolutely loving it. Much better than the stock OS! I have one question just in case its possible, but if not Ill just manually go through all my music files at some point.

Basically I have been using file view as I have all my folders on the player named the way I'd like to scroll through my music. But when I find the album folder I'd like to listen to I often cant read the track names due to the way they have been ripped, with the artist name first. With a long artist name this is troublesome. I am wondering if there is a way to use file view, but then have rockbox display the track names from the ID tag once im into the end subfolders where the MP3's are.

For example today I went into a Nick cave folder and saw:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds -
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds -
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds -
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds -

It was that times about 30 tracks and I had to hover on them to see the track names. Its just the stupid way I have ripped them in relation to naming the MP3's. If this is not possible Ill just go through and change the MP3 names but I do have tens of thousands of tracks. Thanks in advance for any advice, and hats off to the rockbox guys, it's fantastic!

No, Rockbox can't show tag information in the file view. But most mass tagging programs can name the files based on their tags, so if they're properly tagged it should be a matter of just telling an app to rename them, and doing something else until it reports being finished.

There's also the "Screen scrolls out of view" setting (not sure if I'm remembering the name correctly) that allows scrolling the screen "to the right". No idea how that is triggered on the Clip+, please search the manual.

The rename option in foobar works great for this.
