Headphone detection Sansa Clip (et al)

Hey, I've been looking at the discussion on headphone detection for the sansa players. It seems this was given up as a lost cause a long while ago, before the Clip+/ClipZip where around.

Is there any use in trying to get this working again for these newer devices?

The AMS devices do not support headphone detection beyond (IIRC) insertion.  If you can figure out more, feel free to work on it, but I assume the datasheet is correct when it says they can't do headphone unplug detection.
