itunes comment tags preferred over regular comment tag
« on: December 22, 2011, 12:54:08 AM »
Hi there,

I was playing around with the %iC tag which is supposed to show the comment tag of a file. I discovered that I have a few files which were encoded by iTunes though. iTunes seems to create a few comment tags of its own called "COMMENT ITUNNORM" "COMMENT ITUNPGAP" and "COMMENT ITUNSMPB".

The "COMMENT ITUNSMPB" tag contains something like this:

"00000000 00000210 00000A08 0000000000A079E8 00000000 0048BC68 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000"

Now apparently that long hash seems to screw with the %iC tag.

As long as this hash is in the comment field (COMMENT ITUNSMPB) %iC will print the content of "COMMENT ITUNSMPB" tag instead of the content of the plain "COMMENT" tag.

Although, if I change the content of the "COMMENT ITUNSMPB" to someting else, like "test" %iC will suddenly print the content of the "COMMENT" tag.

Does anyone know what is going on here?
