Fuze V2 bad uninstall, Loading Firmware, File Not Found
« on: December 20, 2011, 12:15:32 AM »
I was in a hurry and did not properly uninstall rockbox from my V2 Fuze.  Now when I turn it on, the Rockbox firmware tries to load, but then displays "Loading Firmware, File Not Found".  If I try to boot while holding down the left key, it boots into the original firmware (ofw) without problem.  However, next power cycle returns to the Rockbox file not found error.

Further complicating things is that I cannot mount the device on any USB slot of my two different laptops.  Instead, WinXP reports USB Device Not Recognized.

I will be happy to get back to the original stock firmware, operating without rockbox, but the only way to get there is to hold down the left button while booting.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Uninstall the bootloader or install a Rockbox build. The manual has instructions.

Sorry, doesn't work, because I cannot mount the player via usb on any computer (USB Device Not Recognized).

Ok.  The SanDisk firmware boots, but still won't mount via USB on a computer

Set USB mode to MSC (as the manual asks you to do prior to installation)

Yep, did that too.  That's not the problem. (I actually did read the manual)

Then your player should show up. If not you either have a problem with your computer (broken drivers?) or a hardware issue with the player.

Like I said, I get "Device Not Recognized", so I think there is a driver problem.  Do you know where I could get a good driver for WinXP?

I don't think it is a hardware problem, since the problem only came after my sloppy uninstall of rockbox.  My guess is that the boot partition on the FUZE is bad, or in a bad state, but every time I try to mount it (even if I am booted into the original sansa OS), it remains unrecognized.

No. Try a different computer.

That doesn't mean anything. Hardware can start to fail at any moment.

As I mentioned in my initial post, I had tried two different computers.  Since then, I have tried an additional computer (total of 3) with two (or three) different cables.

Any other suggestions?

If you have problems with OF your best bet is to ask support on Sansa forums

Try to plug it on Ubuntu (you can use a live cd) and see what dmesg tells you it might have some info

Else yes it seems like broken slot but if you can still charge you can use the µSD slot to change music
