How to Share M3u Playlists
« on: December 15, 2011, 11:29:37 AM »
Hello, I'm fairly new to RB and Playlists.  I am running the current build, I believe it's 3.9.1 on a Ipod 5g video.  I use MM to sync.

I created a m3u playlist in MM and syncd to my ipod.  I would like to know how I can share my playlist with a friend.  I don't believe it's as simple as copying the playlist to their hard drive, right?  Or, would I have to share the individual mp3 files with them and they create their own playlist?

Also, if I connect my RB ipod to another laptop/pc, would I be able to play that same playlist using WMP from their laptop/pc??

Sorry if this is confusing.

The playlist is just a list of paths to media.  So, you can share the playlist, but they will also need the actual files listed in the playlist in order to play it.

I don't know much about WMP's playlist handling, but if the player gets mounted to the right drive letter then absolute paths should be correct and your PC-side software should be able to find the files.  If the playlist contains absolute paths and the player gets mounted to a different drive letter then I wouldn't be surprised if various media player software has trouble finding the media.
