"Car mode"
« on: December 14, 2011, 03:17:49 PM »
Hi,

would it be possible to implement the following feature:

If the device is charging and the charging stops,
then the device should automatically pause playing
and go to stand by. If the charging returns the device
should automatically resume playing.

With this feature using an external MP3 player
in a car would be simplified considerably because
manual pausing/resuming when stopping/starting the car
won't be necessary any more.

Thx for your help
Thomas

Already implemented.   See "car adapter" mode in the manual.

Thanks for the quick answer but feature
seems not to be implemented for all modells
e.g. can't find it in the manual for IPod Nano 2G.

I wonder if thats a bug in the manual.  Can you check on your player?

The manual of e.g. SanDisk Sansa Clip+ states for "Car adapter":
"Once the player is shut off either manually, or automatically with the Idle Poweroff function, it must be powered up manually to resume playback."
So this not exactly the feature I asked for.

Might it be possible to also switch the device on and resume playing when charging starts again?

Regards,
Thomas

Just turn off "Idle Poweroff" if you don't want it shutting down, and so playback should resume automatically when power is restored.

OK; but this will still drain the battery?
How long will it take until the device shuts itself down
due to an empty battery?

What are you actually trying to do?

I simply want the same behaviour for the external player as for an inbuild one:
Switch on when external power is on and start playing; switch off when external power is off. I.e. I don't want to switch the player on/off manually.

This is what car adapter mode does.  Why don't you get out your player and try to use it . . .

Thanks for the tip ;-) I am still looking for a suitable player which fulfills my requirements and so had only the information from the manuals and no real player/s to check ...  I will now buy a Sansa Clip+ and start testing ;-)

Thanks for your help

At the moment it won't work right with the Clip+ since that will always boot into the Sandisk firmware when powered off an AC/USB cable.  Although that will probably change soon now that we have USB working pretty well on the Clip+ and don't need the Sandisk USB mode.

The only thing the car adapter mode actually does is stop playback when the charger is disconnected (usually because the car's ignition is off), shutdown is idle poweroff and resume on start up is just the regular start screen setting. As saratoga pointed out though the bootloader boots the OF on power connection so that needs to be changed for this to work smoothly.
