No Playlist option on the main menu
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:20:28 AM »
I've installed Rockbox to my 5th gen ipod and according to the documentation there should be a PLAYLIST option on the main menu but I only have PLAYLIST CATALOG.

Can someone advise please?

Regards

Mike

Seems like the docs are outdated and not reflecting the current state. The Clip+ manual is no different in this regard.

Seems like the docs are outdated and not reflecting the current state. The Clip+ manual is no different in this regard.

The manual matches the current build, while (iirc) that change (Playlist Catalog being renamed to Playlist) hasn't been made for Rockbox 3.10. And the target is not relevant here, since all manuals are built from the same sources it's either correct or wrong for all manuals, as that is not target specific.

It's always a good idea to mention which build you're using ...

So ... What's hapenning exactly with the playlist menu? The playlist menu doesn't exist anymore. Playlist Catalog is *not* the same as the Playlist menu. The manuals are still referring to the playlist menu, so it's all very confusing. For example, in rockbox 3.9, to create a playlist containing all your music (the root playlist) you had to go to the Playlist menu. How do you do that now?

Try the context menu for the Playlist Catalogue entry.  You can find "Create Playlist" there.

Thanks. I could create a playlist from there but that didn't solve my problem, as I wanted to "shuffle all music" on my player. However the context menu hint lead me to a solution. For the record:

1. Select the MUSIC folder
2. Context menu -> insert shuffled
3. Repeat these operations for music on an SD card

I'm getting this context menu thing now and it's fast and efficient. However "shuffle all" on a player with both onboard flash and an SD card takes longer to set. Any shortcut to that operation in Rockbox 3.10?

Also... the documentation needs to be fixed I guess.

Play the "all.m3u8" that is generated as a result of Create Playlist.  If your playback mode is set to shuffle then it will play shuffled.  Alternatively, you can reshuffle the playlist after it's loaded by using the appropriate entry in the WPS context menu.

I noticed some strangeness with the default path for the Create Playlist action, but I will have to see if it's still present on a current build as the one I have on my e280 is a couple of weeks old.
