Upgrading H300 to 240GB HD problem. Followed the guide.

(1/1)

PLANETARY:
Hey everyone, I'm still using my awesome Iriver H300 with glorious Rockbox! I bought a 240GB hd and following the steps in this guide http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=24215.0, it was going well until i was compiling rockbox using cygwin.  Cygwin tried to download rockbox and it couldnt find it in the location the guide said "http://download.rockbox.org/cygwin/". Anyone know where to get it? Is all this still necessary? I really want to get this thing workin!  :D  Also newbie question, what is a bootloader? (is it a part of Rockbox?) and what is the firmware? (is it the .hex file?)

Thanks

Alex

saratoga:
I'm not sure you should be compiling anything to change out the hard disk (its probably not required), but if you want to try I recommend using the developer guide:

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/DevelopmentGuide

Regarding the bootloader, take a look at the install directions in the manual.

Edit:  According to your link you need to use the bootloader linked in that thread with a normal rockbox build.  I don't think you should be trying to compile anything at all.

PLANETARY:
huh, well it didnt work when i just put it in. It seems like since the HD is so big that some things need to be changed?... So would a new bootloader and latest rockbox do the trick?

guzzi75:
i managed to do it by recompiling rockbox and bootloader: latest rockbox and bootloader 19309 + modification in the code.
It works flawlessly with MK2431GAH.
I started from this thread and described my trip
No garantee of success.
but starting with bootloader 19309 is the trick.
