Rockbox not found, H140 problem

Rockbox user so know how to do install it- been using Rockbox for a whole, but with 3.1 release having a problem. With the utility selecting H140 and pointing to correct drive, clicking stable release.

Files are in \.rockbox as usual

But when I reboot it says no .rockbox directory, Rockbox installation not found, and locks up. Has been fine with previous release.

I've manually downloaded 140 release uncompressed it copied the directory over and .rockbox dir not found.

Have pre 4 bootloader.  Have tried boot from disc, rom and ram. Updated ROM and RAM flash.

Seems to be on/off problem, booted up this time without a problem (didn't change anything) Strange. HD is fine.

Rockbox 3.1 is several years old, I don't see any reason to install it. Besides, I'm guessing you're referring to Rockbox 3.10 but I really won't start guessing here. There's also no "140 release". Be more specific and be exact. This is vitally important.

Apart from that, check your filesystem for errors.
