Quick-swapping of SD cards?

(1/1)

Carson Dyle:
I have two 8GB SanDisk players that accept microSDHC cards up to 32GB in size. I have a 32GB card in each of them.

I was thinking: What if I placed the same set of audio files in each system's 8GB of flash and loaded different sets of audio files onto each of the 32GB cards? Then purchase additional cards for additional libraries.

Is there a way I could quick-swap the cards without the need to update the database? I was thinking of pulling the database file(s) off of the Rockboxed players and storing them on the PC I use to manage the players. I'd do it with a script on the PC and load them likewise. If this would work, which data files do I need to copy from Rockbox?

I realize that this would make updating the players a bit more work. And that it would be necessary to keep the audio files stored in the players' onboard flash  static, or else they'd need to be changed on each player. But I think the benefits would outweigh the negatives.

Chronon:
You will need to generate a database for each combination of SD card and onboard storage.  When you change cards you will need to replace all of the *.tcd files in /.rockbox/ on your player.

If you can get away with it (i.e. if it satisfies your needs) it would probably be easier to maintain a set of playlists on each microSD card.  This way you could easily swap cards away from a PC.
