Install of new release
« on: November 29, 2011, 01:24:24 PM »
I have a Fuze v2; had been running 3.7 and tried to install 3.9. The automated downloader seems to complete the installation, reports that installation was successful, however when I start the player (and also as reported under Info), it continues to show version 3.7. Somehow I can't get the player to show the new version 3.9. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Are you sure you pointed it at the right disk drive on your computer?

Alternatively, you can just download the current build and unzip it to your player directly from the menu on the left side of your screen right now.

Thanks. yes, pretty sure it's the right drive. the fuze shows as J and K in explorer. I pointed to the root directory of J. I should download it to the rockbox directory should I?

No, you only point it to the correct drive (i.e. the drive letter J), not any folder on that drive. With the most recent version of Rockbox Utility you can't point it to a folder on the drive anyway but I don't think that's whay you've been trying to do?

I followed Saratoga's suggestion and copied the Current Build to the Fuze and it appears to work fine. My question is whether I could encounter any problems running Rockbox with the Current Build, as opposed to using 3.9.1? Perhaps as long as I don't see any problems, I'll just leave it the way it is. I may try again to update to the 3.9.1. Thanks.

I think the the files of the new version 3.9.1 may have been installed to the desktop of my computer erroneously. I see a folder of .rockbox as a subfolder of rockbox-sansafuzev2-3.9.1

Could I just copy this folder to the fuze and replace the existing folder of the Current Build? I believe it's r31096

thanks!

Yes that will work.  However I would not install 3.9.1 at this point.  Its quite old.

Saratoga - I solved the problem. Of course, something obvious..  The fuzepa firmware file I was pointing to was on the desktop. I successfully installed 3.9.1.  It was released Sep 2011 so it can't be too outdated I wouldn't think, at least for my purposes. Thanks so much for all you help!!

Updating rockbox doesn't involve a fuzepa firmware file, thats only used the first time you install.  I think my original reply was on target.  It sounds like you told the installer to install the rockbox build to some other device or disk drive other then your Sansa.

It was branched from SVN on 2011-06-27.  I would probably not downgrade 5 months worth unless there was a good reason.  What is your reason for wanting to run an older build anyway?

The whole issue to change versions was due to installing a new 32GB Micro card, rather than use a 16GB card. For some reason, version 3.7.1 won't recognize the 32GB card. The installed version 3.9.1 seems to work fine, so I'm happy with it as of now.

As far as the install, for some reason, the file fuzepa needed to be located in the root directory of my fuze in order for the update to be downloaded to the proper location. I'm not sure why, however.

Thanks much for all your help!
