240GB drive into an iPod Classic 7G -- possible?
« on: November 28, 2011, 11:00:35 AM »
I'm seeing on ebay where there are some iPod Classic 7G being offered with the Toshiba MK2431GAH 240GB drive.  The back was modified to have the 6G 160GB deeper back cover.

ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/240GB-iPod-upgrade-oringal-7th-Gen-160GB-iPod-/260848944774?pt=Other_MP3_Players&hash=item3cbbcf0686

The 7G contains the Toshiba MK1634GAL 160GB which is capable of ATA-3 and ATA-4 as is the MK2431GAH 240GB.

Is this modification valid?  If so, would there be an issue with Rockbox for iPod Classic seeing both platters of the MK2431GAH or any other issue?

Is it possible that these players are not "real" iPod Classic 7G?

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

There's no such thing as "not seeing both platters" - everything uses LBA addressing for a long time now, so disks are just giant sequences of sectors. The host has no idea how many platters it has. If it works in the OF then it should work fine in Rockbox.

Hello guys,

I want to ask about the solution to work the last generation thin ipod version that had 160 gb. I have updated it to 240GB after my 160 gb hard disk crashed. Rockbox is working, but can't read any of file that was downloaded to it. Maybe someone can help to fix this problem? When I try to open any track it skip each track immediately.

By the way rockbox worked perfect with original ipod (the last version) that had 160 gb hard drive.

Thank you in advance.
