I can't select a song with the select button on a 5th gen. Color Video iPod.
jeffreyvermeer:
I have a 60 GB 5th generation color video ipod with version 3.9.1 on it. When I use the File Browser to go into the directory where my MP3 files are, after highlighting a song and hitting the Select button a different song starts playing from that directory. Then when I go to View Current Playlist, I see the song I selected like this:
(ERR) ._Otis Redding - Satisfaction
Songs I select once I'm in View Current Playlist will play if they don't say (ERR). In Playback Settings I have Play Selected First set on Yes. What am I doing wrong?
(Also, sometimes it works and I can't tell why.)
Thanks, Jeffrey
Lear:
The "(ERR)" means that Rockbox couldn't play the file for some reason. Either the file couldn't be opened, or perhaps more likely, there's something wrong with it, e.g., Rockbox not being able to read the necessary metadata.
Copy the file(s) to a computer and check it there (e.g., trying to play it in some program). If it works there, one of the Rockbox developers need to take a look at it to determine what the problem is.

Thank you for answering so quickly. So I did this test:
I took a file that plays in iTunes and imported it into a test directory. The one file looks fine when connected to the computer. (All the files look fine when connected.) Unconnected the one file looks like two in the File Browser:
._Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar.mp3
Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar
The one "file" with the "._" won't play, the other one will. When I highlight and select the normal "file", it shows in the Now Playing window and plays fine. The "._" shows up in the Next Track: position for about a second, then disappears leaving that area blank. Why is Rockbox creating this ghost "._" file along with the working one?
Llorean:
Rockbox isn't creating that file. Rockbox doesn't do anything during file transfers. It's caused by whatever you're using to "import" it.
jeffreyvermeer:
Hi Llorean. I tried importing the file two ways. I dragged & dropped the "file" out of an iTunes playlist, then I dragged & dropped the actual mp3 file from my computer's hard drive. It didn't seem to make a difference. The ._ ghost file is created in both cases.
