Do you have problems connecting if you connect while in Apple's firmware and/or Disk Mode?

i have the same problem with my nano ... so are you saying you deleted rockbox and then reinstalled it and now everything works fine?
Basicly my problem is when i connect either of my 2 ipod nano's 8gb in to xp (yes i still use and love xp) it shows a drive letter but an empty drive. If i go into apple mode on the ipod and connect to my pc it shows the files and i can browse them in explorer. When i connect my ipod video 5.5 it works fine in rockbox mode. I suspect I may have unplugged the nano one time while it was detecting and something got messed up in the registery , does anyone know anything about this?

Can you write to the Nano while it's connected (but seemingly empty)? Does the iPod get a drive letter when you connect it using Apple's firmware?

Hi I remember that when I tried to use the fake empty drive, windows told me the drive needs to be formatted and do I want to format it now (no). The ipod does get a drive letter when I connect it using apples firmware and I can see ,read and write files with my nano.
I also remember that device manager sees 2 different types of devices depending on what mode im in. So thats why I assumed it was a registry problem it seems that the rockbox version of the usb device connected did not have the correct setting for it to show up in explorer correctly.

Is this behavior recent? Does it work the same in the current build and the most recent release? If things work properly in Apple's firmware then it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. If we can determine how to reproduce this behavior then a bug report will be in order.
You can try turning off HID support in Rockbox to see if that improves things. I generally don't have problems connecting my Rockbox players to WIndows machines, but your mileage may vary.

This is happening on 3.10 and 3.9.1 and prob earlier
Im starting to think this is a driver issue and not even a registry issue
when i plug usb using rockbox mode and go to:
device manager/ disk drives / apple ipod Nano 2G USB Device / details / Hardware Ids
USBSTOR\DiskApple___iPod_Nano_2G____1.0_
USBSTOR\DiskApple___iPod_Nano_2G____
USBSTOR\DiskApple___
USBSTOR\Apple___iPod_Nano_2G____1
Apple___iPod_Nano_2G____1
USBSTOR\GenDisk
GenDisk
additionally, if i go to Computer Managment/Disk Managment (to change the drive letter) the rockbox drive (letter D) is missing even though it is in my computer
but when i pulg it in using apple mode
device manager/ disk drives / Apple iPod USB Device / details / Hardware Ids
USBSTOR\DiskApple___iPod____________1.62
USBSTOR\DiskApple___iPod____________
USBSTOR\DiskApple___
USBSTOR\Apple___iPod____________1
Apple___iPod____________1
USBSTOR\GenDisk
GenDisk
this shows me that the pc sees this as a totaly differnt device and uses a different driver for the one device, the rockbox driver seems to be broken
dont know if any of this helps here... hope it does since im sure im not the only one with this problem.

Spammers probably. Their posts get deleted really quickly so you won't see them on the forums.
