Database: ID3 Frames "sort order" TSOA TSOP support?

Hi everyone,

I've read some posts about this but they are all very old.

In ID3 2.4 there are some frames called TSOA & TSOP (album sort order  & performer sort order):
http://www.id3.org/id3v2.4.0-frames

These frames are very useful as they permit to order artists & albums in other ways than strictly alphabetical.
For example:
- with artist = "The Beatles", and TSOP = "Beatles", Beatles will be sorted with other "B" groups
- with TSOA = year.album, albums will be sorted in chronological order

The important thing is that the TSOP / TSOA are not displayed. They are only used for sorting.



Is there a way I can make Rockbox support these standard frames?

I'm surprised as my wife's new ipod nano with apple firmware uses these ID3 frames very well... and my sansa clip with rockbox doesn't.

grep doesn't turn up any reference to them in the source, so probably not.

No reason they couldn't be.  I don't think anyone is interested in doing so though.

I'm surprised no one would be interested in having standard id3 tags understood in the database.

I like rockbox (which is clearly an improvement over my original firmware) but I clearly miss a full tag support to be able to browse my music with tags the way I browse it everywhere else.
I can't do anything about it as I'm not a developer myself... and I fully understand if developers work only for the features they see an interest in.
