Wont turn off

I have a eSansa 260v2.  It was working just fine.  I was trying to learn how to set a preset in the Radio for my blind father.  I scrolled to Auto Scan Presets, clicked it and it says it is scanning 87.50 and wont do anything else.  I can't turn it off or anything.  The power button all of a sudden doesn't work.  is this a hardware issue?  My only alternative right now is to let the battery die and recharge it.  Why would it do this?
