Task for Mr. Someone. Merge a Mp3 player and portable Amp.
« on: October 12, 2011, 01:08:25 AM »
There isn't a single mp3 player on the market that can drive ultra low and high impedance headphones in a manner which provides neutral sound, so a amp whose output impedance is good for all 'phones is essential.

What I would like to see is a merging of devices, is there any manufacturer that will merge a mp3 player with a portable amp ?, call it a Amp3 player

Take the best of the iRiver H140 and the iBasso D12 merged into a Amp3 player...HEAVEN...

Come on Mr. Someone at Rockbox, get to it :-)

Oh, and 9v rechargeable batteries, user replaceable.

AMS Sandisk plaers.  Output impedance is about an ohm, which is generally good enough unless your idea of "ultralow" includes stupidly designed headphones.

Regardless, this isn't really rockbox related, perhaps you want anythingbutipod or hydrogenaudio?  They're more oriented for general audio related discussion.

Really, did you measure it ?.

You're no fun and closed to new ideas.
I seem to remember a "pedro" posting and badgering you guys endlessly for info for his non rockbox DIY player, guess because he was a "dev" it made it ok.

Can you actually reference that, or are you just claiming it happened?

Typically speaking any non-Rockbox talk is shut down pretty quickly. These are, after all, the Rockbox forums.

It's not an issue of being "closed to new ideas" as much as "making sure new ideas are in the best place for them, which in the case of non-Rockbox ideas isn't here." He suggested the right place for them.

No but people on ABI did:

Basically headphone amps are pointless on newer players.  Don't waste your time.

Its not about being fun.  I'm pointing out that this is a pretty bad place to discuss these things.

Depends on the player, for H140 it's worth it (analogue section is noisy and has interference from the display) Line out still has noise. Using digital out to DAC / headphone amp.

I wouldn't bother using a DAP headphone output into a headphone amp as it's already amplified, not ideal you wan to use line out.

The H100 series is more then 8 years old.  I wouldn't consider a player thats been out of production for many years "newer".
