"Rocbox" Hardware to Debut in November
« on: October 06, 2004, 02:16:52 PM »
Check out this link: http://www.macnn.com/news/26493

It appears that the Rockbox name is being used on a piece of hardware coming out this November.  It is spelled differently however - "Rocbox".

Looks pretty nice. The name rip-off sucks though... let's get Rockbox going on it! :)

Ok Blast from the past here.

I have a old RocBox sitting here that still works. I'd be willing to give it a whirl. I just have no idea on where to start. The chipset on it is supposed to be the same as that of a iPod, so I wonder how easy it would be to do.

Since there is no more support for this player from RocDigital (Damon Dash & Rocaware) I am not too worried. I no longer have any drivers for it for windows, however I can access the drive just fine from my Mac and a couple of Linux builds.

600 hours of music  :o that is a lot of music. That must be at least 100GB or more.

600 hours of music is 36,000 minutes.  A 128kbps MP3 is roughly 1 MB per minute.  So they were probably referring to a 40 GB player.  I'm quite certain that there were no 100 GB portable players available 3 years ago, which is when that article was written.
