Ipod classic reversed stereo?
« on: September 30, 2011, 06:31:15 PM »
I noticed that all tracks are played with reversed stereo. I've found nothing in the application to solve it...any clue?  ???

Perhaps, it's the Original firmware which is playing reversed stereo... I recall certain iPods to have the left/right channels flipped in the Original Firmware, so that only the Apple headphones would be "compatible" with the iPod.

I don't always recall correctly, obviously :)

 :D

All I know it that with the original firmware, from apple, the playback sounded with the stereo in it's place.

Make sure the sound channel settings are set to stereo... other than that, it might be a iPod Classic-specific bug, as it's still a target considered as "unusable".

Indeed - I've heard this repeated in various places, but never with any real evidence, and I have tested this with various models of iPod and with various Apple bundled headphones and have not seen this; left and right play the same as Rockbox, and it doesn't matter which headphones.

I haven't tried a Classic, though, so it is technically possible that we're doing it wrong on that specific target (which would just be a bug). Can someone else with a Classic comment?

I just noticed this too while comparing the sound quality with other MP3 players.
I've also noticed that the balance changes depending on what the volume is set to. For example, if I turn the volume up I'll have to move the balance towards the left in order for the sound to remain centered. Not sure if it's just my specific Ipod, as I've never used the stock firmware on it.

Doing it on the Nano 2G now, too!
Don't know about my iPod 5G because it needs a new battery (won't hold a charge anymore :'( ) so I can't test on that one.
Any thoughts?

Hi all

I have just installed the latest build of emcore (from January 2012), which includes rockbox 3.10, on a spare ipod classic, and can confirm that the stereo field is reversed (I'm listening to my own music so it struck me straight away).

I had expected that rockbox would have an option to reverse the stereo field for cases like this (like foobar2000 does) or in any case that the user prefers (drummer - like my hi-hat on the left!) along with the myriad similar great features it has, but it doesn't seem to have one that I can find.

I am fully aware it's a very early 'unusable' build though :) thanks

edit: probably should point out that it's a 2009/10 160GB ipod classic

Update your build.  This was reported fixed about 6 months ago.

Also, there is no rockbox 3.10 for your player, so you might want to check what it is you're actually running.

Ah, sorry - I was under the (false) impression that no newer emcore build (on their release page) meant there was no newer rockbox build.

Yeah this is fixed now I've installed the current build. Many thanks.

I don't know how far this is from being a stable/unstable release now but it will be great to get my actual in-use classics rockboxed. The ipod classic may hold 160GB and do gapless and replaygain (using Foobar) etc. but it's the only player I know where the EQ doesn't actually work (most presets, including all useful ones, boost some frequencies at a stage which has no headroom unless the song itself does, causing clipping on almost all music, and it cannot be customised into behaving), which is a serious shortcoming for me.

I also have an iPod Nano 2g and experience the same problem on v3.10. I understand that updating to the latest version will fix it but that's not an option for us Nano 2g owners. The latest version has a deal breaking bug, usb disk mode is broken, so im forced to stay on 3.10 and live with swapped channels :(

Can't something be done about this? Perhaps release a new version with 3.10 disk mode drivers, and the latest version's channel swap fix?
