Sansa e260 v1 froze trying to play MPG; also, is AVI supported?

(1/1)

Androecian:
My player is still frozen right now.

The scroll-ring is glowing blue. The screen is blank, and backlit. No buttons are responding, and there's no indication that I can do anything to get out of this freeze. I can't force shutdown by holding the Home button.

I've unplugged it; I'm thinking I should let the battery run out, plug it back in, boot it in the original Sansa firmware (hold Left at the start, yes?) then navigate to the VIDEO folder and delete the copy of the MPG clip I had been trying to watch.

The majority of my video collection is in AVI - is that supported by Rockbox?

Does anyone have other suggestions on what to do?

Any help is appreciated, thank you :)

mc2739:
If you hold the power button for 20-30 seconds, it should force the player to power off.

AVI is not supported by Rockbox.

Androecian:
Thank you MC! This worked very well :)

No.

Avi is not a video format, it's a container. There are literally hundreds of formats that could be inside of an avi file, so "supporting avi" is simply not feasible, especially on devices that aren't that powerful (which is pretty much the case for all current players). Plus, you need to scale the video anyway since almost no player has enough processing power to do scaling the same time (except a few ones like Android devices and Gigabeat S maybe)
