SenseMe in Rockbox

Hi everybody!
I'm doing my master's study at the moment, and I'd like to produce something useful :) So, it came to me that I can make something like Sony's SenseMe for Rockbox (mechanism for analysing songs and grouping them in dynamic playlists by some common criteria). Or, as an alternative, something similar to that: for instance, creating dynamic playlists based on user behaviour (which music (s)he listens to through the day, does (s)he skips tracks, and so on). Or maybe combining both. I'm open for other suggestions.
At the moment I'm just wondering if it would be legal, if implementation was my own. ( After that I'd be wondering how to make it work :D )

Yes its legal as long as you don't directly steal their source code. As for implementing it, this could be done in a plugin although it might be difficult given how long it takes to decode a song on slow hardware like mp3 players.

Well, I'll be thinking about the implementation now. It'll take some time.

Although this isn't exactly what you're asking about, ISTR a PC program that would link a user's last.fm profile to their music library on their DAP and generate smart-playlists from that, so have a search on the forums and see if that's at all beneficial for you.

This might also be something similar to what evilnick mentioned
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,20612.msg144917.html#msg144917
, it could also be of your interest. But of course the real deal would be to have the ability to generate such playlists directly from the device instead of externally and therefore previously on the PC.

Oh, well. This programs are of course of great interest to me, but I'm doing some research just now on how to get the metadata from the tracks themselves, not from other sources (like last fm). If I found out I can't do that, I'd try to track the way user listens to music which is much easier.
As I'm a little busy at the moment I think I will post some results of this research a bit (few months) later.
Anyway, any related information is welcome. Thanks guys!

As far as I know, what can be obtained from last.fm is something like "similarity music" that can be associated for a certain track (based on genres, tags, listening habits from thousands of users, etc). As I understand it from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SensMe
, SensMe takes it a step further and categorizes mood and tempo, which is great. Personally, what I think it's the best feature of such playlists, is that they can create playlists of music which goes great together, and not necessarily similar to the way the single specific user listens to music normally. Actually, they usually mix the music differently, which is the interesting part, allowing new possibilities and "rediscovering" your own music.
Looking forward to your results
