Did it stop working when you updated?

I REALLY don't want to compile it...

marsrover:
thanks

It started slowing down, then it just got worse with each update.
While I was cleaning it, the really thin part of the metal that does the contact kinda broke off.
They were all folded and stuff. The harder part of the brush is still there, and it works fine in the original OS.
So is there some setting I can change in the code to tweak the sensitivity or something?

(ps, the link you gave me leads to instruction manuels, not the linux rockbox utility)
EDIT: I'm just stupid, found it. :P

You could take a look at the logic used to detect changes in the wheel sensor state.  Its possible the OF does more error checking that makes it more tolerant of a failing sensor.  The driver should be somewhere in firmware/target/arm/sansa IIRC.

I don't think you can use rockbox utility to install old builds.  You don't need it anyway.  The link I gave you is to a copy of each old release.  Just download it and extract it to your player.

older versions refuse to boot.
Bootloader problem? Due to some random I/O errors I'm re-formating the entire drive.
Will attempt again after that.
Post Merge: September 19, 2011, 10:31:57 PMno such luck, still refuses but works fine in the MFG OS.
I really don't want to give up rockbox, is there a build that has the up and down keys that make the selector go up and down instead of doing other things? (could move up and down only when not on the now playing screen)

Llorean:
If it just started happening, and it's not working with older versions of Rockbox that used to work, and you admit to breaking bits of it while cleaning it, it sounds like it's the beginnings of hardware failure. The fact that the original firmware still works suggests that Rockbox may be overly sensitive to whatever's been broken, but I would recommend planning for the player to show further signs of failure in the near future, especially since you seem to have had other issues with it such as the IO issues.
